We all know fashion is cyclical, but so, it seems, is tech. Once upon a time, phones dedicated more space to buttons than screens. Over time, in a trend largely led by Apple, phones have featured fewer and fewer buttons.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 lineup this week, with lovely new colors, a new button for capturing photos, bigger batteries, and support for Apple Intelligence. You’ve probably heard all of the headlining features by now, but there are some smaller features introduced this year that might’ve flown under the radar.

According to Mark Gruman, an Apple insider, Apple has added a new ‘Camera Control’ button on its latest iPhone 16 series because the device is many users’ primary camera. This button (Apple hasn’t called it a button even a single time, but it also works as a button) can ease the photography and videography experience, making it more intuitive and accessible, which, in my opinion, wasn’t that difficult in the first place.

Apple is leaning on Artificial Intelligence (AI) features to boost sales of the iPhone 16. Apple’s suite of AI tools is known as Apple Intelligence and it won’t be available at launch.

There is one major distinction in the iPhone case market this year for the launch of Apple’s series 16 handsets, Camera Control. With the introduction of the new multi-gesture Camera Control button, case makers couldn’t simply just resize last year’s models in order to get their covers up for sale as fast as possible, they also had to decide how they were going to handle the extra functionality and hardware changes this new camera button ushered in.

Why isn’t Apple pushing the boundaries of camera tech on the Pro? Because bigger is not more “pushing boundaries”. There are ways to “push the boundary” other than making the sensor bigger, which was never really a boundary-pushing exercise since full-frame digital camera sensors, and bigger, have existed for decades.

Apple has recently released the iPhone 16 series globally. While the new device has not even hit the market, the rumours around iPhone 17 have started doing the rounds on the internet.

Apple introduced a new button with the iPhone 16 series earlier this week, dubbed ‘Camera control’. However, unlike the action button from last year, the new Camera control wasn’t limited to the Pro models and also made its presence in the standard iPhone 16 variants.

Apple held their annual iPhone keynote this week, announcing the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, two models of AirPods 4, AirPods Max with USB-C, and the fully redesigned Apple Watch Series 10.

The wait is over – iPhone 16 pre-orders are now live worldwide. After the initial announcement, Apple and various carriers have made their flagship models available for purchase, with some fantastic promotions for those ready to upgrade.
